Many of you may already know what this is, some may not. Ramadan is the month of fasting the the Muslims observe and today is the official day that it has started. They withhold from any kind of food or water from sun-up until sundown, and then after that they can eat. From what we hear, it is not only a month of fasting, but also feasting. Once the sun goes down they have big feasts. We have been told that more food is consumed in this month then the rest of the year, but I am not sure how true that is.
So, it will be interesting to learn more about this observance. One really interesting thing that we have learned here is that you cannot eat anything outside during sunlight hours or you can be taken to jail. Apparently as a pregnant woman though, I am exempt, which is nice. Also, any restaurants are closed during the day and don't open until 6 or 7 in the evening.
Just some interesting things that I thought I would share.....

Even those that are not Muslim and are living there have to observe it?
